The Swamp Dogs was formed in 1992 by singer and guitarist Mark Townson, to bridge the gap between his more pop based material and his roots as a jazz musician. The result was an electrifying Rhythm & Blues band, whose recording in that first year made the final 10 in a Radio1 ‘battle of the bands’ competition.
The band has enjoyed much success over the subsequent 15 year stretch, including blues festival gigs, airplay on national radio, large outdoor events and extensive function work. The resulting core of this band comprises professional musicians who work in a variety of musical fields (e.g. jazz, blues, pop, Pink Floyd tribute), resulting in a tight and extremely versatile group. This is the arena in which each member gets to stretch his wings, whilst providing an apt backdrop for the virtuoso guitar playing and vocal delivery of the charismatic quick-quipping Mark Townson.
As experienced function players, The Swamp Dogs know how to set the mood for a good party - when to keep things mellow, and when to get things going with a swing!
